
Derek Kauneckis is joining ISeeChange as Senior Resilience Analyst and Services Lead. Kauneckis will be developing projects on resilient infrastructure, client engagement, and product research and development. He brings over twenty years of experience in constructing cross-sector collaborations and resilience research and innovation.
Kauneckis has a Ph.D. in Public Policy from Indiana University at Bloomington and M.Sc. from the University of California at Davis. Prior to joining ISeeChange, he served as Associate Professor at the University of Nevada Reno and at Ohio University. His work has covered topics as diverse as community smart tech, climate adaptation and resilience planning, and circular economy analysis. Kauneckis is an affiliated Associate Research Professor in the Division of Earth and Ecosystem Sciences at the Desert Research Institute.
Growing up in the west droughts and floods were part of everyday life. While in college he spent summers fighting wildfires in the Sierras.
Kauneckis’ has spent his career focusing on equipping communities with the data and tools to prepare for an increasingly unpredictable future.
